You are welcome to try any of the classes at Asta Yoga, but we encourage you to work your way up to the faster paced classes. Check out the schedule and find which class suits your schedule and ambition.
FAQ’s:
Do I have to be flexible?
No. In fact, if you’re not very flexible, Yoga is what you need. Flexibility and strength will come quickly after just a few classes.
Is Yoga only for women?
No. This isn’t jazzercise. These challenging routines will make both men and women stronger and more flexible, good for all.
What should I prepare for?
Prepare to focus, follow instructions and to move freely in comfortable clothes for 1 hour of non-stop movement.
Is this style “hot yoga”?
No. We teach “Ashtanga Vinyasa.” The room is heated prior to class to a warm temperature (72°-80°). Bodily heat is created organically and safely through movement and breathing techniques.
“I’ve heard you can get hurt with Ashtanga”
You can only hurt yourself. Begin slowly, take the ambition out of it. Listen to your body. This is a practice, not a competition.
Tips:
- Bring a Towel and/or Yoga mat (both available for a rental fee)
- Arrive 10-15 minutes early for class
- Try not to eat within two hours of class. A very light snack is okay if you must.
- Turn off cell phones or do not bring them into the practice room, maybe just leave them at home
- Notify the yoga instructor of any injuries
- Stay for the whole class. If it’s necessary to leave, make sure to do so before the final resting pose of savasana as to not disturb your fellow practitioners
- A regular practice, especially building off the Rocket system, is the best way to develop and notice the most results. Make sure to give yourself at least one day of rest a week, traditionally Saturday is the day of rest
- Check out the schedule to find classes suited and marked for beginners. We also have beginner workshops available that can help build a foundation for your practice
- Drink water before and after class rather than during class. Ashtanga and the vinyasa movement is design to create heat from the inside out and burn toxins with our own internal fire. Drinking water during class is the equivalent of putting out the fire.
