What Makes Yoga a Spiritual Practice?

A prayer is when we forget who we think we are and honestly communicate with our higher intelligence without the intervention of the ego. It is a mom

ent in

which we are free and listening to the language of our souls. We know we are talking to God because there is a feeling of connection and belongingness.  That’s what sometimes makes us feel like crying, or emotionally free and alive, what makes us take that deep breath of satisfaction with life and what opens our eyes and makes us see a different perspective, the perspective of God, the big picture.

Praying is to connect. To elevate our consciousness for a moment if not for a longer time. It is to be one with the One, with God, with that which is, the Creator, the Universe or however you’d prefer to describe it. Yoga keeps us together not only as we are here with each other, but it also keeps ourselves together…you know? When we keep it together.. we’re not loosing IT.  And what’s “it”? It’s the connection, the intelligent and centered approach to life and to each other. It’s the union that we have with the Universe when we are keeping it together. It’s that special feeling of bliss and knowingness. It’s our higher intelligence performing for us and walking the talk…

Our yoga practice should remind us that we if can do so much with our bodies we should be able to do the same in what’s more than physical. We should remember that all the strength and flexibility acquired in the yoga practice reflects in our higher powers of inner strength and flexibility. Our ability to be soft and strong at the sametime. The change we see and the power we acquire with Yoga will remind us and confirm to us that we are evolving. We are becoming wise because we know ourselves better. We are becoming more conscious of “it” as we understand more and more that we are one, that we are more than what we think we are, that we need to explore and practice more to discover our true selves.

Above all of this which happens naturally with Yoga, there is a certain satisfaction that comes with it.  We know something good is happening to us. We are seeing our lives in that intelligent, objective perspective, we are connected with ourselves and with each other through Yoga, which means union, which is the only reason and cause to be here.

Yoga is a state. A state of union with our bodies and mind, with the world and with each other. It is the actual moment in which we are watching and understanding our life intelligently frame by frame. The best part comes when we get to know that we can do whatever we want, we have the ability and power to choose. We are in control. And we can practice control and exercise our intelligence by doing yoga… It’s like “the app there is for that!”

The message here is that when we do Yoga, we’re praying. Because we’re connecting  the physical with the metaphysical. The body with the mind. And that’s what’s “spiritual” about it . That’s why we feel special and happy and there is that certain satisfaction after each class. Like our prayers have been answered.
