We Have Lift-off: Arm Balance Workshop with Mark
January 21st, 2012
Light the fuse and send your practice into orbit with this fun and challenging arm balance workshop at Asta Yoga. Based off of the sequences of traditional Ashtanga Vinyasa and Rocket Yoga we will explore the intricacies, training methods, and shortcuts to balancing on your hands and arms. Discover how these poses are not merely based on strength, but instead find them through awareness and creativity.
The workshop consists of a 2 hour session of “exercises” where we will first warm up and then break down the components of hand/arm balancing asana’s from the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd series of Ashtanga. Included and following the workshop is the evening Rocket class where you will be able to employ your new found strength and awareness.
Poses to be explored (not limited to) include: Bakasana (Crow), Eka-Pada Bakasana (One Legged Crow), Koundinyasana, Eka-Pada Koundinyasana I and II, Astavakrasana, Parsvabakasana (side crow), Tittibasana (firefly), Bhujapidasana and more.
These poses not only create a sense of weightlessness, but can also help overcome fears
and inhibitions that carry into your everyday life.
